Although frustrating at times, I liked this work from beginning to end. I've never used oils before, and I was surprised how easy they were to use. The ability to blend colours easily was especially nice, and I also found that I could mix my paint right on the canvas. This let me use (waste) far less paint than I would have had I used acrylics to produce the same image. I learned several useful things like, "Do not mix linseed oil and varsol!", and, "Do not accidentally splatter varsol on the canvas!". I found that once I got the basic shapes and background down (the shape and position of the frog was difficult), it was really easy to put in the details and add value contrast. I like the golden-glowy feel the painting ended up with. However, I really, really, really don't like having to be very careful with it while it's wet, and oils take a VERY long time to dry!
