I like working with acrylics, so I had fun with this one. I felt like producing something bright and lively/energetic for my first work, so the hues used were bright and strong (more so than in this digital reproduction), and the streaks that oppose each other in each section as well as the rows and columns of colour created by the squares produce much movement. I created a stencil to paint the frogs with, but after having them smudge up quickly (which was frustrating after the work I put into it), I instead traced them into the squares with a pencil and painted those with a small brush and an even smaller liner brush. Tape for masking the squares was essential in keeping the busy painting from getting too messy or sloppy looking. The bright colours and the repetition also relate to the works of Andy Warhol, who was my subject for the Independent Study Unit of the class.
